Freo Street Doctor is a mobile medical health service that provides a visible, easily accessible and non-judgmental health care service to marginalised, disadvantaged and homeless people in our community.
The service currently operates regular clinics each week across Fremantle and surrounding South Metropolitan areas. Each clinic is three hours in duration and has a GP and an outreach worker/driver and volunteer nurses (where possible). The primary target groups for the service are homeless and at-risk populations, including young people, Indigenous Australians, people with diagnosed and undiagnosed mental illness, and people with little or no income.
In this role you will be required to:
- Encourage potential clients to service.
- Driving of vans to various locations
- Ensure that the mobile medical unit is collected from and returned promptly to the vehicle storage location for sessional clinic delivery.
- Assist with van maintenance, including (but not limited to) ensuring adequate fuel, water pump filled, power connection and daily cleaning.
- Emptying and removal of clinical waste, rubbish and linen to appropriate facility.
- Disposal of clinical pathology and paperwork as required.
- Greet clients and assist new clients with completion of appropriate forms as required.
- Triage patients as necessary.
- Complete Data Collection requirements for each clinic session.
- Assist clients with physical, mental and social needs through provision of information and referral pathways.
- Ascertain accommodation status and provide information regarding local hostels as necessary.
- Ascertain engagement with supporting Community Services and provide information and referral pathways.
Selection Criteria;
Essential:
- Current LR (Light Rigid) License.
- Previous experience providing an outreach service.
- Demonstrated experience or interest working with marginalised populations.
- Understanding of barriers and issues that disadvantaged people experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and ethical boundaries.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of local services and community organisations
The successful applicant will be required to:
- Provide proof of possession of a current Driver’s License
- Provide National Police certificate (less than three months old)
