A new Freo Street Doctor mobile clinic van will be helping disadvantaged people thanks to the generous support and sponsorship of Sea Corporation (Seacorp), a local subsidiary of the esteemed Thompson Shipping Group.
Craig Thompson, owner of Thompson Shipping Group, descendant of the first settlers in Western Australia and 5th generation Fremantle identity who attended South Fremantle Senior High School, has been an exceptional champion of Black Swan Health since 2017. He emphasised the invaluable role of the Fremantle Street Doctor service from Black Swan Health, stating, “It is difficult to imagine the lives of the less fortunate residents in the Fremantle area without this crucial service” and encourages other businesses to rally behind this exceptional organisation.
Terina Grace, CEO & Managing Director of Black Swan Health was thrilled by the extremely generous donation and thanked Seacorp’s CEO Craig Thompson and the Thompson family. “This donation of a quarter of a million dollars, covering the full purchase and fit out cost of the van, is the largest donation in the organisation’s history and couldn’t be for a more worthy purpose or have come at a better time.”
Chair of the Black Swan Health Board, Alistair Vickery, said “This magnificent donation from Seacorp is pivotal to provide vital healthcare to the unhoused and most in need in the Fremantle community.”
Sarah Tadier, Chief Operations Officer of Black Swan Health, commented on the older of Black Swan Health’s two current mobile medical service vans reaching the age of 19 years and nearing ‘retirement’. This donation will enable the Freo Street Doctor service to continue providing critical mobile medical and counselling services to people most in need for many years into the future.
The Freo Street Doctor service is an iconic service in the Fremantle area. It commenced in 2004 and has provided general practice health care and mental health counselling services to many thousands of people in need, in the Fremantle and greater Fremantle area. The van is a fully accredited General Practice on wheels and provides care, rain, hail or shine, at locations around the City of Fremantle.
The Freo Street Doctor service is run by a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, including experienced GPs, nurses and outreach workers, delivering health care every morning and afternoon throughout the week. Over 19 years Freo Street Doctor has provided more than 75,000 counselling and health consultations.
